Delegation of Kazakh court visits BFIPC

A delegation led by Christopher Campbell-Holt, registrar and chief executive officer of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) Court and International Arbitration Centre of Kazakhstan, visited the Beijing Fourth Intermediate People's Court (BFIPC). Ma Jun, chief judge of the Civil Division (Beijing International Commercial Tribunal) of the BFIPC, participated in the exchange event.

The delegation toured the case filing and litigation service hall, the one-stop diversified resolution mechanism for international commercial disputes, the bilingual courtroom and the exhibition of excellent traditional Chinese legal culture. They gained a comprehensive understanding of the innovative achievements in the modernization of the Beijing International Commercial Tribunal (BICT), including the bilingual interpretation trial system.

They highly appreciated the practices of the BICT in the development of the smart court, the management mechanism for complex commercial cases related to the Belt and Road Initiative, the one-stop diversified dispute resolution mechanism and the Chinese mediation culture.

During the exchange session, Ma presented the BICT's jurisdiction responsibilities, specialized trials and support for arbitration centers. Campbell-Holt introduced the innovations of the AIFC Court in international commercial dispute resolution and the emerging challenges it faces. He said the visit was fruitful, and he was impressed by the wisdom and achievements of the Chinese judiciary in resolving international commercial disputes.

Participants from both sides also held in-depth discussions on international commercial dispute resolution, case management, coordination mechanisms between litigation, arbitration, and mediation, as well as the application of artificial intelligence in the legal system.
