The Supreme People's Court (SPC) announced the results of its evaluation of major judicial research projects in 2024 on Dec 31, 2025. Among the winners was the Research on Improving Foreign-Related Commercial Trial Mechanisms and the Application of Rules led by Gong Haoming, president of the Beijing Fourth Intermediate People's Court (BFIPC), and Li Wang, a professor at Tsinghua University's School of Law.

The SPC comprehensively assessed the overall performance of each research team throughout the research process, followed by a comprehensive evaluation by experts as well as guidance and management departments, and it ultimately selected 35 research reports as outstanding projects.

Since the project's launch, the lead researchers have made coordinated efforts to leverage the theoretical and practical strengths of the joint research team. They organized multiple expert discussions to define the research direction, structure and report content. The work was assigned to five research groups, which concurrently conducted literature reviews, empirical research and comparative studies, and it ultimately produced a research report of nearly 130,000 words.

The foreign-related commercial case management mechanism refined by the team was selected as one of the best demonstration cases of judicial reform initiated by courts in Beijing. Several cases adjudicated using this mechanism and trial rules were also included in the fifth group of typical cases related to Belt and Road cooperation and the first group of typical cases of foreign-related commercial and maritime mediation released by the SPC.

In the future, the BFIPC will promote the integration of research and practice, leverage its jurisdiction over foreign-related cases and enhance talent development.  By focusing on research and learning from experience accumulated in these major judicial research projects, it aims to drive innovation in trials and contribute judicial wisdom and strength to making Beijing a preferred choice for resolving international commercial disputes.
